Fair & Festival Season Has Arrived in Portland

There’s something about May in Portland that always feels like the official start of summer. The sunshine starts making more regular appearances, patios fill back up, flowers are blooming everywhere, and weekends quickly begin filling with local events, markets, concerts, fairs, and festivals.

One of the best parts about living in the Pacific Northwest is how much our communities come alive this time of year. Whether you’re looking for family-friendly events, live music, amazing food, or just an excuse to spend more time outside, Portland’s fair and festival season truly has something for everyone.

Here are a few local favorites happening around Portland this season:

Portland Rose Festival

One of Portland’s most iconic traditions, the Rose Festival officially kicks off festival season each year. From the Grand Floral Parade and waterfront carnival rides to fireworks and live entertainment, this is one of the city’s biggest summer events and a favorite for locals and visitors alike.

Rose Festival CityFair

Held along the waterfront, CityFair brings together food vendors, rides, games, live music, and beautiful river views. It’s the perfect weekend activity for families, date nights, or anyone wanting to soak up the energy downtown.

Portland Farmers Markets

While not technically festivals, Portland’s farmers markets deserve a spot on the list. From fresh flowers and produce to local coffee, baked goods, and handmade products, these markets become weekend staples throughout the spring and summer months.

Multnomah County Fair

A longtime local tradition, the Multnomah County Fair offers live entertainment, family activities, local vendors, and classic fair fun for all ages.

Local Neighborhood Street Fairs & Summer Markets

Throughout the next few months, neighborhoods all over Portland will host seasonal markets, art walks, concerts, and community fairs. Areas like Alberta Arts, Sellwood, Mississippi, and Lake Oswego always seem especially lively this time of year.

Beyond the events themselves, this season is one of the reasons so many people love calling Portland home. There’s a sense of community that feels especially strong during spring and summer. People spend more time outdoors, support local businesses, gather with friends and family, and fully embrace everything the city has to offer.

It’s also one of our favorite times to help clients explore different neighborhoods throughout the Portland metro. Every area has its own personality, and fair and festival season is the perfect reminder that buying a home is about more than just the house itself — it’s about finding the community and lifestyle that fits you best.

As we head toward summer, we hope you take advantage of the sunshine, explore a few local events, and enjoy another beautiful season here in Portland!
